FAQs

Is the first hour really free?

Yes! All new customers receive a free one hour consultation, during which a TPT tutor will discuss your needs and create an individualized academic study plan for you.

Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

At The Premier Tutors, we take pride in the ability to fashion teaching methods according to every student’s individual strengths and needs. Our teaching philosophy rests on building trusting long term relationships with students and their families in order to devise the most effective system of education.

What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

Private tutoring is often thought of as “remedial” in some way, and the truth is that everyone, no matter how well they’re doing, could do with, or should do with, some kind of one-on-one help. It’s no secret that there’s no one way to learn, and the advantage of having a private tutor is being able to learn in a way that comes naturally without the fierce competition of the classroom. In addition, private tutoring has a rich heritage dating all the way back to Aristotle and Plato—we aim to create that kind of intellectual partnership between tutor and student.

What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

Rapport is supremely important—find a tutor that’s a great fit for your kid.

If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

Get going and stay local! 90% of your advertising will be word-of-mouth as clients who see what an awesome job you did with their kid tell all their friends. Everyone has it in them to be a great teacher—pick up something you’re very interested in and find someone who wants to learn it. If you don’t want to jump right in yourself, join a company like ours and we’ll give you a foot in the door, some training, and a client base to start with.

Describe the most common types of help you provide for your clients.

We’ve worked with people of all ages, at all stages of their academic careers. We work with students through elementary/middle/high school, applying to college and later grad school (Calculus, Stats, GMAT, GRE). We typically work with families over the course of a number of years, helping students with whatever challenges they might face in their academic career, be it Algebra, ELA, Physics or the SATs

What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

Technology is quickly outstripping traditional education. We’re especially aware of this as our online classes get bigger and we’re able to help more and more people across the world. We’re updating and expanding our online tools all the time to give students 24/7 access to the resources they need – when they need them. Most of us now understand that learning needn’t, and shouldn’t, be confined to a classroom at all and can take place wherever the student is most focussed and engaged. We’ve done this by making games and puzzles that students can carry around with them on their phones and computers, so they can keep learning all the time.

Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

All the time—curriculums keep changing, as do standardized tests, I’m always excited about new technology that keeps popping up. Everyone on our team keeps their eyes out for cool new stuff and ways to learn so they can pass it on to their students.

What are you currently working on improving?

We work with our students to get feedback on our online tools and are making them better all the time.
